Superchunk is one of those bands from the late 80's/90's that your heard of but you might not know you heard them. For instance, their song "Hyper Enough" from the 1995 album "Here's Where The Strings Come In" was part of the soundtrack for EA Sports NCAA Football 06. "Slack Motherfucker" from their debut, self-titled album was included in some SPIN list as one of the Top 20 singles of the 90's. It should be obvious that song received no radio play. They continued to be solid into the 2000's. I don't regret purchasing the "Majesty Shredding" album in 2010.
That's some of the history but what about today? The band recently released an EP/Single. 35+ years ago this would have been a 45 or a two song cassette. I will say about both "There's A Ghost" and "Alice" are Superchunk songs. They aren't breaking any new, for them, musical ground but they are both quite good. Strong lyrics, strong beat, and strong music. Although, "Alice" has some music that beyond the fuzzier than normal guitar sounds like something from Bob Mould's "Body of Song". "Ghost" is a pure rocker. I would gladly hold on to a tall boy and sing a long to it at a show.
Superchunk has lost nothing over the last 30 years. Both of these tracks are worth the $2 they want for the EP/Single/45. Bandcamp Friday is coming up again, just sayin'.
