Let's Go On An Adventure with The Cosmic Psychos

I could say there is a deep meaning to this but that would be a lie. Pop a cold one and enjoy.

Matt Berninger - "Serpentine Prison"

Matt Berninger is the lead singer for The National. He also has a side project called EL VY. I really like the former and find the latter to be just okay. Matt is a brilliant lyricist and has a great voice for the style of music he sings. This album, "Serpentine Prison" is his first truly solo project.

I'm giving this album a chance to stand on its own.

The title track is a forlorn story of loss. "...I feel like an impersonation of you / Or am I doing another version of you doing me / Nobodies ever really thinking about us half as much as we want'em to be..." The man can really turn a phrase that makes you think he's peering into your thoughts.

"One More Second" is that letter you wanted to write to that significant other with whom your relationship was always rocky. You started based on some chemical reaction and it ended in a trash heap. The in between times were a combination of good and awkward pauses.

The whole album has a put me on during a rainy day and drink some coffee feel. Or you can use it as a way to feel better when you are bit sad. This is a fine solo effort. I do find myself missing the bombastic music from the rest of The National but it is definitely a different sound and stands on its own.
