Cayetana's "Nervous Like Me" was released in 2014 and followed up by "A New Kind of Normal" in 2017. I never said I was going to only review new music. A six year old album might be newer than some of the "new" stuff in your collection, so bear with me.
This morning while I was preparing for a meeting the song "Busy Brain" started playing. When I heard the words "I felt it kicking, inside my brain / It's so anxiety driven/ Ten years, it's still the same...", I decided I had to write about this album.
I had not heard about this band until they were announced as the opener for The Bouncing Souls at The Double Door(RIP) in November of 2016. I gave them a quick listen on bandcamp and told Lisa they sounded pretty good. (Sidebar: The Double Door going away was a sad moment for live music venues. I saw OFF! and Cromags there several years before The Bouncing Souls show. What a fantastic place to see a show!)
Tall boy of something or other in hand, we gathered near the stage and watched the all female trio from Philadelphia take the stage. For the next 30+ minutes, we were enthralled with really good rock and roll songs. Driving beats and whip smart lyrics were this band's sweet spot. You know a band set is good when you don't start looking at a clock to see about how long they have been on stage. There was no time check for me.
I bought "Nervous Like Me" soon after our return home. It maintains a steady rotation onto the my phone for listening during travel.
The band broke up in 2018 but that doesn't diminish the strength of this album. Give it a spin and let me know what you think.
