Let's Go On An Adventure with The Cosmic Psychos

I could say there is a deep meaning to this but that would be a lie. Pop a cold one and enjoy.

DFMK - The Mexicans are coming and they are here for your ear drums.

Defying the blogging convention of saving the good stuff for the end. Ponder "Anti-Tu"(My high school Spanish tells me this means "anti you".) recorded on Live From The Rock Room in 2018.

"Anti-Tu" is from DFMK's 2016 7 song EP "7 canciones sobre un individualismo radical"

This Tijuana based quartet has a sometimes revolving door of musicians depending on touring schedules and passport restrictions. But the music remains super fast and Mr. Cap brings the energy one would expect from a punk rock singer. Throwing himself around the stage and sometimes nearly bending himself in two backwards.

I had neither seen nor heard of them until my friends led the charge to see them at 8 Seconds in Gainesville, FL during FEST in early November of 2019. (You'll be hearing more about FEST bands in future posts. Count on it.) They were one of the first bands of the night but a decent crowd had already formed in one of FEST's larger venues. Some of these people clearly knew something I didn't. After a few warm up chords and a quick mic check - sound exploded from the stage and bodies started churning in front of it. I've seen few bands fire up a pit that fast and DFMK pulled it off. For the next 20 minutes, Mr. Cap charged around the stage and sometimes flung himself into the pit. The brief pauses in between songs were barely long enough to catch ones breath before they would blast off again.

The lyrics are nearly 100% Spanish which means I often have no idea what is being said. But good punk is good punk and DFMK is certainly that. The beats will have you bobbing your head and the sudden starts and stops are reminiscent of early Bad Brains. The newest self-titled album was released on October 9th via Rad Girlfriend Records. It would be a good pick up on the next Bandcamp Friday, November 6.
